My non-GL with rear facing seats had 'em. I never really used them. Since they attach to two studs on the back of the removable seats, and we never really went anywhere with the rear seats installed, I never found them terribly useful. But if you use it as a people mover and daily driver and leave the seats in, they might be handy. The Vanagon certainly doesn't have an overabundance of small item storage.
