And I actually liked the valve burner 1500's - you just had to run premium fuel in them. Problem is, most didn't and detonation took its toll. The 1600 was the fix that protected us against ourselves since it was lower compression and went back to regular gas.

All I can say to this is "Remember the Chevy Vega........".

Yeah, 36 hp, those were the days. Wait a minute, that is where the whole engine conversion thing began for VW vans AFAIK. People I knew could not wait to pull those 36 hp turkeys and put in the rock solid 40 hp updated motors. Then those those with the valve burner 1500 wanted 1600. Then some of those wanted Corvair, and here were are, wherever here is.

We may have time on our hands but we don't have time on our side.
