I bent mine with no problems. IIRC, I just put them in a vice (after separating the plastic cover, obviously). I did two bends on each handle so that the knob would still be perpendicular to the plane of the door. I only bent about 10 degrees. Matter of fact, the knobs broke off of both handles recently, and I'm gonna have to fashion some new ones. I'll let you know how it goes.
