Jeff, If we let only smart people make the decisions for us, we may not own any Vanagons. Sometimes, it makes sense to bribe them to look the other way. Not Vanagon related but here's an example. Bought a 72 Opel GT ans stashed in at my second home. Waited a couple months and took the GF to Vegas. Went to Louis Vuitton and got her a nice purse for about 150% of cost of car. Then I broke the news. "Honey, I bought this Opel GT." To which she replied, "You mean that cute yellow car parked around the corner from your other house? Thanks for the purse honey. I like the car too." Plug Vanagon in place of Opel and you got the correct scenario.
