While driving across the country last year in my bus, i'd make stops in
hotel parking lots. Most every exit from a highway is immediately surrounded
by hotels, so find the highest concentration and park centrally. If you get
a few different hotel connections, you'll find about half of them are
secured and half of them are open, so you might have to move to another
hotel..... but even in small towns i've been successful this way in finding
WIFI. Generally they have quiet parking lots as well, great for relaxing to
cook a meal and check your email.
