I think I just lucked out from the start. The Old Trout (aka She Who Must Be Obeyed) grew up in a vdub house, and took her driving test in a diesel vanagon, so she has no expectations of going anywhere fast. When we got the 88 Westy is was clearly my responsibility to reduce it's incidence of trying to burst into flames, and she isn't too keen on seeing it on a flatbed. But I get special dispensation to take the Westy to Clifftop every year, and she pilots the saggy westy wagon when I ride the Surly Long Haul Trucker on week long bike trips. The only thing she bitches about is needing a step up into the sliding door. Anybody found a fold up step that can be bolted to the underside?
