fwiw, I like 1.9's just fine. I think the bottem ends last better than they do on the 2.1. The shorter stoke 'might' be a tiny bit smoother running. And I'm starting to like Digijet fuel injection more than Digifant, a lot more actually.

I am fitting a 2.1 waterboxer oil cooler ( same one as on diesel vanagons, tdi's etc. ) to a 1.9 with 2.1 exahust system on it. The 2.1 exhaust system is obviously a better made and engineered exhaust system than what is on the 1.9., so I always put those on if I can. I am currently running ..... 2.1 engine block 2.1 exahust system, intake 2.1 runners, plenum, and throttle body, 2.1 oil cooler, 2.1 style three wire heated oxygen sensor , 2.1 style breather heater element, and 1.9 type Digijet fuel injection .... and I like this package very well.

( fwiw, the highest horse power stock waterboxer engine , 110 hp I think, is a 2.1 with 10 to one compression ratio , no cat, and Digijet, not digifant, fuel injection. .....it uses an ecu different than our stock US model digiget ecu's though. But I am liking Digijet a lot lately. Interesting VW stayed with digijet on that engine ...and I am just assuming that it was after Digifant started being on vanagons )

Running that setup in an 85 high top Adventurewagon ...and the aerodynamic advanatages of that top shape offers are significant, in my opinion, not to mention, the quiestest vanagon you ever drove. For a waterboxer........she ain't bad !
