on the instrument cluster cover ... push forward at the front base of it, ( where the speedo and warning lights are....the 'bottom of what is closest to you ) while pulling up and back at the front, by the windshield.

one thing you want to watch out for is..... the part that the top clips too that holds the instruments ...those break really easily , like where it's mounted at the four corners... what you hope is that the main instrument housing, this part the cover clips to, is solidly screwed down at all 4 corners.

Sure wish they woulda made that part out of the same indestructible plastic that the cover is made of.

take the ash tray out too, that gives some look-around-in-there space. Lube the new wire with WD-40 so it slides through better, etc. Check the brake fluid level and cognition when the instrument cover is off, too.
