Hopefully I'm not doubling up on info but.....

Likely obvious, but tape and vinyl get inputted into your computer/w.h.y. in real time from output of device to the computers onboard soundcard input. A time consuming affair. There's software, possibly freeware, that helps remove most or all pops and clicks on your vinyl and possibly tape hiss. This software may even be part of software you already own. i.e. CD burning software. But, this software *might* "EQ" the material so that some of the highs are lost. YMMV.

If you choose to get a new stereo (AKA "head unit") for your Vanagon instead of an iPod or ? ask if new head unit plays flash drives (AKA "thumb drives") that have been formatted on both Mac and PC. Likely not an issue these days, but worth asking IMO. I understand that some head units are better than others in this regard. Easy way is to bring in a thumb drive of music files that you formatted on your computer and see how well it works. And, if you get a new head unit, and want one with a remote control, make sure remote actually turns your stereo on/off. (if such a beast exists) My Kenwood remote doesn't. Really like the stereo, but I wish the remote would turn it on/off.

My .02

Neil.
