I had a 36' Catalina here on SF Bay for a number of years. Eventually sold it and got a 13' Melonseed. http://www.melonseed.com/ Its a sprit rigged "skiff" based on the NJ Barnegat Bay Sneakkbox - a duck hunting boat from the late 1880s. Having the big boat was great but there was never enough people around to take it out. I beach-launch the Melonseed from a boat yard 100 feet from my office on Richardson's Bay in Sausalito. Small boats are way more fun but can be a handful on SF Bay. Vanagons and sailboats go together. There are lots of Vanagons around the houseboat communities in Sausalito.
