No. Wasn't suggesting that. :)

My response was somewhat tongue in cheek, but for those users who want an easy pathway to hearing their vinyl via digital media, a TT like that would likely do this. Hey it c/w a version of Audacity and EZ Vinyl! $90 *shipped* ? Assuming UPS doesn't charge some kind of fee upon delivery, and that the cartridge or arm doesn't fall off, sounds good for the aforementioned.

Good points. :)

I've recently been delving further into resurrecting/building my **modest** home music studio. Yes. Quality starts at source material. Beyond that, the first analogue piece in the audio chain, is the most crucial. (Pmail me about the Apogee Duet I recently purchased) So ya, a $90 USB TT won't likely do as well as a boutique level TT. But, for some it provides ease of use. Plug it in, boot up, launch software, set stuff, transfer, burn. Speakers and amps? for sure. Ironically though, my Westy is so noisy when under power, all the clicks, pops, hiss, and great solos playing back on my new stereo/speakers won't be heard as they should be anyway. ;)

IMO, a decent PCI type computer sound card or much easier, a mid priced FW or USB home studio type audio interface, would do justice to bringing old vinyl into Vanagon land. Assuming it has the right inputs, just plug the TT into that. Some are more user friendly than others, and some play nicer with Mac or PC in part depending on version of OS.

Even something low end like this would be better than the $99 TT electronics.

$55 Cnd:

Caveat: I've never used an inexpensive TT.

With audio cards and the like, preamp type/quality and AD-DA converters are the bigger part of what makes the difference to sound quality.
