When my VW bus dreams first started when I was around 17 or so I didn't even know Vanagons existed. I was nuts over the Baywindow buses though - I thought they were cool and yes i'd say there was a certain beauty to them. When I first saw a Vanagon in aVW bus book i bought I thought there were terrible ugly nasty looking things.

Then in'99 when I was 26 I was willed my first bus - I hadn't seen it but knew it was to be mine. I thought the baywindow bus I had always dreamed of owning was mine at last - then it arrived and it was an '85 GL. Yes I was disappointed at first - but hey it was a VW Bus none the less. I loved it the minute I got in it and drove it. The look of it grew on me quickly and I'd have to say that yes now 11 years later I think Vanagons are damn nice looking vans.

They aren't a bay or the Holy grail of a Splittie - but they stand on their own. They still have character - a great looking design and I love the way they look. I wouldn't call them pretty really but I would call them a great looking "ugly" - if that makes sense.

I always wanted a vehicle that was different than the others on the road - and I'd say i have that. Now with my 4th bus looming in the very near future I think it's safe to say I'm hooked.
