The hard line as you call it,
is a black plastic line coming from the fuel pump.
You will find it right above the starter .......in your 84.
As I have said many times, run the fuel hose directly to the hard plastic
fuel line.
I see no sense at all in running it through a hole in the firewall with a
rubber grommet.
Why make a spot that can wear when there is no need to ?
there's a nice fat spot alongside bell housing to run the fuel line.
About mounting things ...
and I am a real safety nut, have built and raced cars and motorcycles, and
worked on aircraft ..
so I am always thinking about what is simplest and most reliable.
Something that made an impression on me decades ago - the Kon Tiki Raft ...
it was made entirely out of reeds ..........
so the entire large raft was like a big floppy mattress.....there is no one
part on it where anything can exert any real force that can do any damage.
so 'hard mounting' is just one method, and not always the best at all.
'Soft Mounting' works quite well.
Just make sure nothing can rub and wear.
also ....KISS - keep it simple stupid.
just run the fuel hose to the plastic line.
one hose, one clamp.
the fewer the parts, the less there is to fail or leak.
can't make it any simpler than that.
