Does it have the 1.9 style cooling system on it ?
It probably does.
the thermostat is trickerier to get at on those.........and leaving it as is
would be tempting.
if it has the 2.1 cooling system ( unlikley ) .......the t-stat is quite
easy to get at , right on top of the t-stat housing...
as long as the 4 screws for the top come right out.
( sometimes they were installed to tightly, or without any anit-seize on the
threads.....and the nut part cast into the plastic housing just spins an
then you end up grinding off the tops of a screw or two - that's in a bad
case. In a good case it just comes right off.
it 'probably' can run ok without a themostat.
'The Problem' with any two door , or two-cirucits t-stat is that in normal
operation, water circuilates in the 'bypass circuit' when cold...
then as it warms up, that circuit is closed off, and the main circuit to the
radiator is opened.
with no t-stat, it will circuilate coolant in both circuits....
meaning that all the hot coolant won't go to the radiator - some of it will
be 'short cirucited' through the bypass circuit.
Running heaters will help.
my hunch is it probably could make it.
I would expect it to possibly run pretty rich from being too cool.
Scott
