Danny, I recently had a customer that went through three or four rear CV axles in very short order. I tried to help him but after the second axle I told him that something must be wrong because I wasn't going through axles with anyone else. He insisted that nothing was wrong and bought two more axles over the course of about six months. Finally he got the van to a shop where the mechanic wasn't just a parts replacer but actually wanted to find the problem. It turns out that his rear end was jacked up with a spacer that was putting his CV axles at an extreme angle. This was killing his axles. He went back to the stock ride height and all is well. Just a thought. I really don't know of any boots that are "better" than the stock ones. They normally last over 100k miles. Let me know if you need any more help or parts. Does anyone have an idea or know of a better replacement boot that is stronger and one that will last longer under these conditions? I have heard talk about Porsche boots that might fit the vanagon stock axle. If anyone could help me with part#'s that would be great. Thanks > > > Danny C. > '84 Westy (Vanny) > > > > > > > |
