Hi Volks,
I brought the vanagon home... The shop wasn't too keen on doing the job
after all. The nice part is that they aren't going to charge me for not
doing anything. While I was there I was able to buy some exhaust gaskets
and a temp sensor from them so I will be out in the driveway tomorrow
with this.
I just put the van on ramps in the driveway and at first glance the job
doesn't look TOO bad. There is a lot of stuff in the way though. First
off I will have to drain the oil, then support the engine from below
with a jack stand and unbolt the bearer bar. If I am REALLY lucky, I
*might* be able to get to the cover bolts with a 13mm wrench, but it'll
be super tight clearance. If not then I will probably have to pull the
main pulley and I don't know what else. The 2.1 cooling system is really
crowded into this area and I also have the 2.1 hanger supporting the
muffler.
At least the weather is supposed to be decent tomorrow. The forecast is
for Toronto is +9C and sunny tomorrow and that is gonna feel amazing
after driving through a snowstorm for about 6 hours yesterday in Nova
Scotia.
Happy Trails,
