I've seen alloy lug bolts fail. They are prohibited on racetracks. I don't use them on any vehicle. A 'ham-fisted' mechanic with an air impact wrench can over-stress them with ease and you'd never know till they let go. You can even twist them right off 'by hand' (make the bolt shaft break using a normal lug wrench) and they sometimes seize onto a steel hub due to dissimilar metals reaction. Don Hanson
