Until someone posted the link to that Digifant help page and then this thread was introduced, I was not aware that the AFM was going to be problematic, eventually. But at the prices I see for replacements and the description given of how the AFM works and wears, I guess when mine goes bad I will probably be looking at a stand alone engine management system. We used one (Motec) on a Bosch racecar I ran for a while, and despite the fact that I was no high tech wizard it was fairly simple to get that car running exactly as we wanted it. One thing we'll have to keep in mind, when considering an aftermarket improvment like a modern EMS, is Smog inspectors. If Emissions regulations in other US states follow the California model, we'll all be required to drive only the newest vehicle from "approved" companies. Exaggerating with that comment, but realistically, the way these so-called Emission Control inspection rules seem to be trending is more towards "maximising Ease and Profit" for the businesses and the government agencies doing the enforcement rather than actually reducing the amount of air pollution each person's vehicle injects into our air.. In California they won't even test a vehicle's emissions unless it's configured to match their state's CARB laws. A stand alone EMS would probably make one of their "smog referees" pull out his parking boot and lock down your vehicle right there, for flat-bedding off to the Crusher....at your expense, of course. Even though you can dial in a vehicles tune to make it incredibly efficient and clean running with an aftermarket EMS, they will likely be "Verbooten!!"....
