I don't even want to imagine all the concerns renting one's personal vehicle would entail. I once sold a car, accepting the money and signing the title over in the normal way. Buyer had at that time in Texas 30 days to obtain title in his own name. Meanwhile, he wrecked the car, but worse, totalled a new pickup and badly injured two other people in the process. Injured people's insurance company lawyer found me. Took me a lawyer and several months to get that off my mind. Came out ok for me, but I can't say the plaintiffs were wrong in coming after me. I would probably do the same thing -- go after the "owner" of the vehicle. Except I didn't actually own it. What would happen if one really did still own the vehicle? Of course, like everyone, I've loaned a car to a friend or relative, but in that case, insurance is clearly in force. I've only sold pne vehicles since that incident, and I sold the vehicle on the condition that the buyer and I go together and transfer title. Don't know that that is necessary (clearly not by law), but it makes me feel better.
