Someone in my neighborhood is posting on craigslist to try to rent a "Vanagon or other energy efficient vehicle" for a 1300 mile round trip to to Anza Borrego's flowers - and offering $500. I think this person has a mistaken impression about the way Vanagons consume both fuel and funds. For that price, they're likely to get somebody's barely running beater, and that's likely to be a complicated trip. I, on the other hand, have the well-running van but lack the time to make the trip this year. Perhaps I'll offer to rent it for $5/mile.

Anybody ever rent their personal Vanagon out?
