I've stayed at Cunningham Falls State park (Maryland). This park is separated into a camping area (with easy access to Route 15), the lake area (which is a nice place to cool off in the summer time, and the falls area (which is also nice and can be walked to from the lake area.)

I don't know of any camping area per se within Catoctin Mountain park.

If traveling in twilight hours, be cautious, while US 15 is a high speed route, this section also has a very high rate of accidents. It also gets a fair amount of police patrolling.
