The full ohm of resistance isn't across the wire, it's across the sensor. Should be no problem soldering on an extension.

My 90 GL runs on a Haltech engine management system and it uses a pretty much standard 3 wire Oxygen sensor. Irt dawned on me the other day that I haven't replaced it in the 9 years it's been in service. Figuring it was time to replace it, I found a generic 3 wire Bosch sensor at Advanced Auto with the right sized 3 pin GM styled plug and once I got everything home and apart, the plug and the wires won't reach the female connector for the EMS.

since I had to solder and heat shrink extensions on the original, I cut those wires off the old sensor in hopes of having enough wire to make the new one reach. While fiddling around with some VOM readings, the two heater wires tested out as pretty much not having any resistance in them, but the signal wire had like a full ohm of resistance.

I guess my questions go like this: 1. Are there problems soldering extension wires to get the plug to reach,or do I find a sensor with wire long enough to get the job done? Can I use copper wire or does it ned to be that silver core stuff like is on the new and old sensor?

2. Is a full ohm of resistance acceptable or is that part of the "problem"?

As always, adise is always appreciated.
