Automatic is fabulous around town. My 90 GL automatic, is some serious fukengruven. With good stiff sidewalls it drives like it is on tracks. It runs a little high on the RPMs, in third (its highest gear,) at highway speeds, but in the mountains of Colorado, this actually helps. This vehicle is truly delicious and I'm always happy to jump in and go! In addition, these transmissions have a pretty good reputation for longevity. I say try it before you knock it, for sure. I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work. - Thomas A. Edison
