Install one of the PVC's about 12" long and about 3/4" ID. They're very convenient and easy to install while chainging struts, that WILL hold the hatch up with bikes, etc on. I've got both the Gary Lee gas can/bike rack ladder on plus the 5 gal. gas can and that PVC holds it up just fine.
