Hi Tony,

I have an '85 and felt that the ride was too high in the front. I used the front springs from a '91 GL and kept the saggy-butt '85 springs in the back. It has a bit of a rake, which I don't particularly care for, but at least the nose isn't way up any more. I dropped the front end about 1.5 inches with the GL springs.

This picture is not truly representative because the Vanagon is sitting on the downward slope of my driveway, but you get the idea:
