Well, Because I'm too cheap to own multiple vans for long. Ideally, I'd have an auto van for times when I expect stop and go traffic but otherwise I'd rather save fuel, weight and have communion with the road. As Scott says, it's also very nice on hills and such in wet weather. The first time I drove a stick was as a young electrician. My journeyman sent me back to the shop in a Chevy Luv. I was a little intimidated but was comfortable by the return trip and soon realized the feeling was akin to biking or a T-top and more recently a convertible. I recently had a stick in my '99 Saab Convertible and I mean to tell you I've never had a more exhilarating experience to date, especially on the winding 101, central OR coast! I have a theory that this is the same physiological change that creates 4x4 fiends. I've no desire to climb vertical walls, in a Syncro, but certainly understand why the boys like them! Now to the fairer gender, for some reason, a lass who enjoys driving a standard transmission is just HOTT. This I can't explain and I'm sure I've reached the TMI level so will stop now. :-) On Fri, Mar 12, 2010 at 3:40 PM, Robert Fisher <garciasghostvw@gmail.com>wrote: > --snip-- > I can't imagine owning an auto tx in a Vanagon > --snip-- > > Why not? > > Cya, > Robert >
