Wow, I never really looked at any vanagon rotors. No wonder these things are difficult to get stopped! Tiny little buggers, aren't they? The size of the rotors, a single piston and drum brakes at the rear, plus ~5000gvw.equals a somewhat under braked vehicle...

Take a gander at this pair of old defunct front rotors from my Porsche GT(sitting on my 55 gal barrel stove in the shop). 4 pistons on each of these rotors with Brembo Big Red calipers. One on each corner of the car..rears were a bit smaller... Those were meant to stop a car weighing 3500#s in street form. The framed 'speed certificate' in one photo is "a" reason for such big brakes..That was during an Open Road race in Nevada when the car was still street legal, with my S.O. riding right seat as Navigator.
