Mellisa. IIRC you have a pre '85 ?

I installed a:

new (aftermarket) tank/seals filter, hoses, pump. Later on, I removed the pre pump filter and installed a can type filter after pump. Pump still cavitates from time to time. It's worse in hotter weather.

I have read that the older style tanks have a smaller ID outlet and that this may cause cavitation.

I was also curious about differences between the OEM pump and aftermarket offerings. Compared what I *think* was an original pump to a newer one. No obvious differences that I could see.

One of these days I'll reinstall the old pump. It worked fine... was trouble shooting me engine swap no-start.

Neil.
