to be really sure that oil is dispersed throughout the trannie ..... with the rear wheels off the ground, drive it in gear a minute or two. ( assuming it's a 2WD vanagon )

I once read instructions that came with a new rebuilt trans - they said that if you idle it in neutral a lot, even full of oil... oil does not get spread around in the trans properly. Makes sense too.

so if it was dry, and now has oil ....run it in gear in the air for a couple of minutes.
