My first dash removal adventure had me puzzling over the cig lighter assembly. Ironic considering I actually got the dash off w/o too much ado.

The assembly was loose in the dash. I don't recall exactly where slackc was, but I wound a length of #14 solid bare copper wire around it where assembly meets dash face. This *just* took up the slack.
