"Gee, I didn't want to be a vulture flying over Roger's wreck, so I never brought up wanting to get his 5 sp tranny, but if it's still there I might just have to?" ... and ... "As for feeling any guilt about being a vulture, someone is going to eat the carrion, might as well be a hungry friend as a stranger."

Absolutely!

My goodness, when considering recycling and "the carbon footprint" aspects of everything we consume vs buy new, this seems like such a smarter AND much more virtuous thing to do than to see scavenging parts from otherwise dead rigs, as a bad thing.

Although in my case there is nothing at all virtuous about putting "other" engines in my van, it is such a good idea with the above consideration, vs buying some sort of new iteration of a van/camper (not that there is one, in my opinion, that would satisfactorily substitute for the Syncro Westy or Westy for my preferred uses.)

There is a segment of our economy that maintaining my SW supports, that I will gladly take credit for. I don't see anything at all predatory about it.
