re "So reassuring to be riding around on '60's era brakes...."

Lol. More like 70's era brakes. In the 60's Old Buses had twin leading shoe front drum brakes, so a big step up from those. ( funny that it's 73 and up, since 72 is the first year of disc brakes on VW Buses, and I don't think there is a 'one-year-only' 72 style )

granted, by 1985 , the last year of this style brake caliper and disc on Vanagons ... due for an upgrade for sure by then. They sure musta saved a lot of money having the same front brakes in production for whatever that is ...12 straight years !

when these are tired, you can think about vented front discs and more powerful calipers next time, with 15 inch wheels.

do these new ATE Calipers come 'loaded' ...as in 'with pads' ? Rebuilt ones usually are. Dunno about totally new ones though...but the chance to get a totally NEW caliper ...that's nice.
