I assume the pipe was pulled at least part way out toward rear for repair. If not..... Given my limited knowledge of all model year Vanagons, prepping the crack would be nearly impossible. And running a torch? IF done this way, I'd question a solder job repair. Like I can just see someone sticking a propane torch in there, long wick of solder, likely a bad job done. Did they melt the crossover pipe? Personally I'd clamp hose(s) as needed, drain the pipe, pull it back, prep and braze it. Maybe "soldered" means "brazed"? (below). Better yet, if metal allows, MIG on a patch. No better yet, pull both pipes and TK it. Neil.
