Me Sprinter manual says my Tiptronic 'learns' your habits. There's no pattern, as you say, just left tip it for downing to the lower gear or right tip it for the opposite. I was letting off the accel each time until I read it's not even necessary. Very nice but, no thanks, I'll take a real stick.

And yes, I've driven far more autos than sticks but methinks those days are over, even if I have to teach my new Scottish lass to drive a stick!
