your welcome Michael.
I'm think the original gaskets are cork..
and many have never been changed. The cork gets rock hard and doesn't seal too well anymore.
I'm pretty sure this gasket here with the part # I quoted off it is a vanagon auto trans differential pan gasket.
for a gasket sealer I like Permatex High Tack ..
in a small can with a brush.
Nice goopy red stuff. I put it fairly generously on both sides of the gasket ( not the parts ) ..
and also on the threads of the bolts that hold the pan on.
Eyeball the ring gear teeth carefully while you're in there. If there are pits or evidence of real wear on the ring and pinion ...
one rebuilder I know of declares that a non-rebuildble trans right there. Yours is probably fine.........just something you can check while in there.

Well, I found that in the archives from vanagonparts.com and on Frank's website. That looks like the correct number. I got a number from BD as 091-301-131 but it seems that is not the correct number. Now I gotta call the parts place in the am to make sure. Guess I can change the tranny kit and do the final next week if I have to order it. I am surprised that it is so expensive. When I got the van two years ago, I noticed some seepeage and thought it was the tranny so ordered the tranny kit. Not sure when, if ever, it has been changed out. Will check and see if it just needs to be snugged down for now. This will eliminate a very small drip on oaccasion on my driveway. Thanks alot for your help, Scott.

hi Michael,
the part number on the gasket I keep in stock is 090 507 215
it's definitely high quality.
I think I paid something like $ 28 for it ...that was a professional shop price too.
It might be 'OE grade.'
I got it a few years ago before lower quality and cheaper parts became so common, as they seem to have become lately.
