I would ask to see proof i.e. dyno sheets on these engines. I think a little digging will turn up more than a few failed 'upsized' GW engines. You'd be light years ahead by going with the late-2.5 Subaru over either the Ford or GW engines. Just ask Kirk for a drive in one of his, I think that will change your mind. I mean, who wants to deal with more blown engines and antiquated fuel/ignition/gasket problems on the WBX? Or the worse fuel mileage and premium gas costs?

I have looked at all sorts of conversion. At first I was going to go with the Bostig Ztech conversion (the price is right and I liked the thought of a bolt on turbo). I was also thinking about doing a Subaru 2.5L engine. I have been seeing all this stuff on conversions and leaky torque converter seals. I have an auto tranny and have had that seal go out before. I decided to go ahead today and buy the GoWesty 2.4L. The VW shop I will be using to install it is going to pull my 1.9 and keep it complete turn key ready to go. They will be building my 2.4L long block with all new exhaust and and wire harness off of a 2.1. I like the idea of having a vw motor in my van. It would suck to be in some other state on a trip and have engine or transmission failure and have to find some one who is capable of working on my conversion set-up if I went that route. The 2.4L > GoWesty engine has 115hp and 160 ft pounds of torque. That will be 35hp more than my stock 1.9L and 55 more ft pounds of torque. That should be a very noticeable difference. Does anyone out there have the 2.4 GoWesty engine? If so can you e-mail me back the pros and cons??? Thanks |
