I had to fix my sliding door on my westy 1985 You will need to remove the locking mechanism ( 2 large Phillips screw very hard to remove impact screwdriver may help, I had to heat the screw to get them loose) and if my memory serve me well the cable has a knid of hook that hook in the locking mechanism for my fix , I had the bend back the locking mechanism where the cables "hook in" also use and test it for a while before putting back the door panel.
