I have to chime in here with some nagging advice. Awnings are like mobile homes in Tornado Alley...they attract winds. Whenever you put up an awning you have to expect the worst. Anticipate the wind will rise. I think you should always attach the awning to the earth somehow, even on the calmest day...Stake it down in soft earth or tie substantial weight to it's outer poles if you are on hardpack. Use a 5 gal water jug on each pole. And never leave your awning 'un-attended'. You may come back and find it wrapped around your own or your neighbor's vehicle.

If you have one of those that rolls up and stays on the vehicle as you travel...put an extra strap around the case to keep it 'furled'....You should see all the awning-parts, ventilation hatches and cargo boxes alongside the interstate through the Columbia River Gorge, where I live...People cruising along at 75 and they hit a gust..head on against them at 75...Instant 150mph apparent wind...does some damage.

I like those ez-ups because they are ez-up..and down. When I leave my camp I just compress the thing and put a bungee around it... I attach the inside to my van's wheels with bungees and hang some substantial weight on the outer legs...Works ok...until it gets windy. Don Hanson
