Thanks Scott.

Brakes? Well.....

My "safety paranoia" got the better of me. I installed a new FTE master cylinder. (same as previous one)

Pedal + brakes feel exactly the same!

But, it's put my mind at rest. Now I *know* MC is not hinky.

I swear though, I felt the pedal sink *ever* so slightly, *ever* so slowly held at 1/2. It wasn't. New one feels the same. Oh well. :)

As for the "dunk" or small "clunk" at bottom of pedal, some opinions:

John at Van Wonder (repairs mostly Vanagons), said one wouldn't "normally" push the pedal that hard. Like all I was likely doing on list bit of push, was expanding flex hoses etc. He said pedal felt fine and height was ok. A lister on the Samba said of his two '84's, one had the same "dunk" sound/feel, the other did not. The '85 belonging to the parts shop owner, did not have this noise. And, pedal travel and feel were very similar.

Thanks Scott et al for the help.

Neil.
