I also have the tom-tom, and not had any problems with it mechanically. I have 16 inch tires, so I totally rely on the GPS for a speedometer. I can keep the unit directly in front of me and down low, so it does not obscure my vision of the road. I like the dimmer for night driving. Like a lot of GPS's, occasionally it does direct me to a wrong address. I generally rely on the speech for navigation, so actual size is not so much a consideration. You can enlarge and reduce the maps if needed though. The small size is a plus to me for traveling and use in rental cars and such.
