That mixture adjustment screw is just a small bypass around the metering
flap to allow for fine tuning the idle mixture. It has almost no effect
above idle. If adjusting makes any real difference at all then you have
proved that the O2 sensor system is not working. When things go wrong
adjustments are never the appropriate response except after someone has
already messed things up.

Things to look for are the temp 2 sensor and wiring to it, the O2 sensor,
and something more drastically being wrong. You need some diagnostics, not
adjustments.

Hello all,

I have a question concerning the AFM on an '84. First would a incorrect
setting cause richness in fuel and what is the appropriate setting for the
hex screw? ie: how far out from closed should it be? I am pretty much a sea
level in Florida and I do not have any sort of meter to calibrate. Any
thoughts? I have checked the archives because I know this has been visited
before, but y'all have meters to use to calibrate? any rough ideas? Thanks
