I was getting a brown page with a long message from gmail stating that this was not gmail's real page; if you clicked the "proceed" button instead of "return safely" might result in a site full of viruses just waiting to leap out. The https in the URLbar was red and struck-through. Obviously there's a problem, but to get this far I had clicked on the MAIL link in the regular Google page, so I don't know what was going on. Eventua;lly I decided what the hell, this is a protected university server, so I clicked "proceed". The https remained highlighted but it unsurprisingly went straight to my mail, which is why I'm sitting here doing my mail whilst https sits there in thew URL glowing red, with a strikethrough piercing its evil little heart.
