we have to make some assumptions on the little data we can find. first, we can find test results from vc rebuilders that show toque vs fluid temp (I believe the temp to be a related but not critical component of this test, it does however, show a graph that can be compared with others) see this graph for a "broken" vc http://shufti.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/oldvc.jpg see how toque value not much more than 60 nm
then a refurbed vc; http://shufti.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/refurbishedvc.jpg see how transferred toque now around 250 nm
this is with vc input/output diff of 75 rpm. See this pic of australian subaru tuner testing torque value of a vc http://web.archive.org/web/20080730134953/http:// us1.webpublications.com.au/static/images/articles/i1082/108266_4lo.jpg so, my proposal Mark... take one of your used vcs, open drain port(s), drain old fluid and wash out with some sort of solvent, drain. Measure volume of vc by adding some fluid (perhaps kerosene?), either measure volume used to fill, or do by weight and compensate for density difference between kerosene and siloxane. fill with siloxane, compensating for air fill percentage. reseal and test on lathe. you may have to make some sort of jig to hold vc on lathe. test at 75 rpm. see how close you get to 250 nm :) Its all theoretical right now, but its a fun project and if the siloxane can be had for 7.20 a pop, what the heck, eh? alistair
so I propose that one
