There's always Bruno over at German Car Service at Olympic and Cloverfield, which I've heard mostly positive reviews. <www.german-car-service.com> Probably not cheap though. Then there's Swiss Motors on Sepulveda, and they're DEFINITELY not cheap, as they specialize mostly in Porsche. They do have a cool yellow air-cooled Vanagon with a Porsche engine in it parked out front.

A few years ago I would have recommended "Jack", a guy who worked out of his driveway in Venice. He rebuilt several Vanagons for my friends... but unfortunately Jack made the mistake of trusting a hydraulic jack a couple years ago and got crushed to death. under the front end of a Vanagon. NEVER TRUST A JACK!
