Yes! Shortened the rear linkage rod. Tranny works "ok". Found all the gears. Not a real test but up on blocks saw those flanges turning at 4 different speeds. Shifter still a little stiff. Almost like a rod is dragging, but I don't see anything rubbing. Maybe the gear oil needs to be churned up some. (was swapped in from other tranny) Thought maybe rod was rubbing on the center bushing tab but no. I made sure to bend that thing as high as I could. Oh well. After I weld up the cut on rear rod I'll see if tweaking things 1 or 2 splines helps. Hopefully it's not rubbing on the front bushing. Maybe I'll loosen the bolts and see. Gotta say though, if one wants to learn how the shift linkage works, this is a great way to do it. Ha!

I'll tell ya, doing these "sessions" of Vanagon work here at home sure makes me appreciate what you pro's go through. I guess it depends on the job, but it's hard work at times. Add customers to the mix..... <grin> So here's to all you pro's out there keeping these things alive!

I managed to drop a wrench on my chops. That made me almost shout. Not painful, but my chops make my living so.....

Right. <sigh> I did it the hard way! Holding the nut behind the frame (toward front) Yeesh. Likely sneaking a bolt through toward the rear would have made more sense. Like duh. ;^) Maybe I should try some of that brain medicine!
