I just can't see why anyone would run the fuel hose through the hole in the
firewall and protect the fuel hose with a rubber grommet,
when there is no need to run the fuel hose through that hole in the first
place .
it works perfectly fine to route the hose through that very large space
right below, Then you don' t have to protect the fuel hose from any metal
edge of the firewall hole.
kind of like steps on a sailboat mast :
People ask why those steps are installed permanently there
They're there so you can climb up the mast and untangle the sail when it
gets hung up on the those steps. .
So why run a critical item like a fuel hose through a metal-edged hole when
you don't have to ?
May the Vanagon Gods smile upon your vanagon at all times !
