That way is not so good for waterboxers. The design VW used flows extra fresh cool fuel through the rails past the injectors at all times when the engine is running and thus pushes any bubbles or what have you right by and then up to the regulator which also acts as a tee and they exit back harmlessly to the tank. So air is purged out of the system rather than being trapped and pushed to the injectors. When a very hot engine is shut off the fuel in the lines close to the head will get very hot and can vaporize inside the lines and VW's hose system pushes that vapor out the return line instead of through the injectors. The constant extra flow keeps the fuel temps more constant as well. Mark
