It sounds like (no pun) you could want quieter tires as a first step. There can be a big difference in noise from tire choice and age. Older tires can get harder and transfer road noise more...which I clue-into when you say "lately _____" My winter Hakapelita tires are very loud, harsh sounding, compared to the Nankangs I run in summer, as an example of how the noise level can vary between brands. I'm sure you could ask for some List recommendations as to which tires might be the best choice, if sound level is your current concern.
