I wnet to town on my westy with the stuff, I used more than you really need to. The stuff dampens the sheet metal vibrations and only a percentage of total area you need to cover. But the stuff is so cheap i went hog wild. It sure makes the panels dead. Doors sound so much better when closing. But it did not reduce road/wind noise as much as I had hoped. I now know you need to do more to reduce more noise. Supposedly the best thing, after applying the panel dampener is a, (oh shoot, I forget the term), a "de-coupling sheet" - heavy vinyl sheet that absorbs the vibrations, then some foam type insulation (closed cell foam best in the van, for obvious corrosion reasons). The heavy vinyl (or lead :) ) sheet is expensive. In my "new" van I plan on using peel and stick, followed by ensolite foam. The foam will provide thermal insulation too. alistair PS an very extensive discussion of this is onthe samba PPS I took pics of my door Michael, will send after more coffee :)
