Dear Stephen,


WD40 is *NOT* a lubricant except temporarily.  Its main ingredient is
Stoddard Solvent (essentially a high grade of mineral spirits).  It's
a very good water-displacer, though -- that's what the WD stand for.


The old-timey speedo-cable lube was graphite mixed with kerosene or
similar to carry it, but it seems to have disappeared.  Folks
nowadays are using Tri-Flow and similar spray lubes.
